MCP quickstart

From MCP application to a successful tool call.

1. Create an MCP application

  • Open the developer portal MCP applications page.
  • Enable the public tool profile / capabilities you need.
  • Copy the application public id for the MCP URL.

2. Point your MCP client at FoodAPI

Local: make mcp-dev → http://localhost:3100/mcp. Trusted server-side API-key MCP is documented under authentication — do not put keys in browser hosts.

3. Complete OAuth

The host opens FoodAPI authorization. Grant the scopes your agent needs (recipes, pantry, nutrition, meal plans, shopping). Scopes

4. First successful tool call
